Here is what we spent for our 8 wonderful days in Japan!
Japan can be either an expensive country or a country that is financially reasonable. We choose the latter. I am continually amazed at how we can keep our costs down in many of these high dollar countries. It hasn’t even been hard and I don’t feel like it is uncomfortable. We make all our choices on how much something will cost. If we are craving a nice fancy meal, then we will fix the other two meals of the day at home cheaply. If we don’t feel like cooking, we will eat our 3 meals of the day at local restaurants where the locals eat and not the tourist spots that are much more expensive. We never buy any of those goofy souvenirs that end up in a drawer back home. Yes, they bring about great memories but all the photos I take do the same thing and they don’t cost me anything. So far on this trip I have bought 3 souvenir type items, 2 t-shirts & 1 simple bag, for a total of $30 and Bud bought one leather bag in Florence for $185 (he actually paid for it with his non-travel money). That’s it so far for our 7.5 months on the road. My point is that if you are dreaming of a trip, it is probably more affordable then you realize if you just keep your eye on the goal. You just need to decide your goal is it a trip to an amazing location or a drawer full of trinkets and a few fancy meals. If you stay focused, your goal may be easier than you think. Happy travels!
