Uber me anywhere
At this point I need to admit my age. When I started traveling in the mid 70’s, the world was a different place. Private cars or cabs took travelers to their destinations. A few hardy souls rented cars and navigated on their own and tried to follow foreign street signs. It was not easy and could be expensive. Then along comes Ride Sharing in 2009. World travel through the unique platform of computerization for hailing a ride and billing turned the transportation industry on its head.
The clear winner at this point is Uber. If you haven’t joined yet, do so tomorrow. Uber is affecting all aspects of the moving people around industry. Operating in over 230 cities world -wide, puts them in the driver’s seat (no pun intended). When you are going somewhere in a foreign country for the first time, there is no better way to get around. Coming in from the airport with luggage, getting to your first tourist stop for the day, needing to get back to where you are staying when you get lost; all and many more opportunities arise to use Uber.
The truth is Uber is good for so many reasons. The comfort received from knowing you will have a safe driver, who will charge you a predetermined rate, and get you quickly to your destination is simply huge. Not only that, he wants a favorable rating so he looks good too Uber. The time saved compared to public transportation, can make your day. Uber is almost always cheaper than a cab and the guy will find you on some strange street corner.
I feel bad going on and on about Uber. They are still so new they are hardly mentioned in the travels books: even the 2015 editions. The experience is so easy its nuts. Call for your pickup, look for your guy by license plate, watch his named vehicle approach, and hop in. Don’t worry about tipping, it’s in the bill. You get an automatic e-mail confirmation of your charge and you can immediately rate your driver. Use it multiple times in the same day. Uber is just crazy good.
