WE SAW PYRAMIDS!!!!
One of our biggest special days has arrived. We are picked up at the Cairo Inn by our guide Rashid and his driver. We are given a crash coarse history lesson by our history teacher guide. Our first stop is a pyramid funerary complex Suposa. A smaller but detailed tomb you can enter and take pictures. Our guide Rashid is older and wiser and is a big help in understanding Egyptian history over the ages. The Pharaohs control began over 3200 years BC so the Pyramid here are almost 5000 years old.
We make it to the three large pyramids that Egypt is famous for. At Supsoa we learned that they evolved through time at how the Egyptians learned how to build their pyramids: 1st the flat Mastaba Pyramids 3000BC, 2nd the Step Pyramids 2600BC, 3rd the Bent cone Pyramids 2000BC and finally the true Giza Pyramids 1500BC.
It was such a pleasure being around such history from antiquity. On the downside, the area is rough, in poor condition and badly neglected for such a World treasure. There are many vendors selling junk trinkets that follow you and hassle you for your purchase, rough pavement, many underfed animals, lots of camels and a extreme lack of tourist. We have heard that tourism is down to 5% and does not seem to be recovering. The day has been modestly expensive considering entrance fees, tips and guide and driving expenses. The guide and driver were well worth the extra money - we received a very educational and personal service. Bud ps. did I mention in 4 days we have not run into 1 American - ZERO.
