LISBON PORTUGAL GRAFFITI/STREET ART
In Lisbon Spain there was no shortage of amazing street art. Some of it was tucked away in narrow winding single lane roads and others sat high, big, and bold on the side of a building. The city of Lisbon has managed to embrace the power of street art and help foster it.
In May the Urban Art Gallery of Lisbon City Council partnered with another agency to bring together artist and the walls that could be painted. Bud and I took a guided tour through the city and heard of some of the interesting things the the city is doing to aid street art. Two that I recall are the placing of plywood on posts in front of an old building and inviting artist to paint on the wood and not the building. The thought was that the art would bring life to a otherwise eyesore of a dilapidated building without damaging the building further. The other idea that they did was to hold a competition and the 5 winners were allowed to paint their art on the walls of a indoor 5 story parking structure. Each artist received their own floor as their canvas.
I really enjoyed the beautiful city with all the history and ancient buildings, but i equally enjoyed stumbling upon some modern art from some talented individuals. Beth
