India is a budget travelers dream come true! It's a big adventure for a small budget.
Okay, so India wasn’t our most favorite stop on our trip so far but I know it gave us some of our most memorable moments. We met some very nice people and saw a culture that appeared satisfied with what had been dealt to them. In the Hindu religion, it is believed that what happens is what was meant to happen and you just accept it. I know that may be an over simplification but I feel that is what we saw. When people begged for money they never got mad if we said no, when we saw the man crawling on the ground because his legs were so miss-formed, he still greeted us with a smile. We learned a little of the Hindu religion, and if I understand it correctly, life is about good and bad. If you have a headache, you just wait it out because life can be uncomfortable sometimes. I still have much to learn and I appreciate all that we saw and I look forward to learning more from our new friends.
Our visit in India was extremely inexpensive. Yes, we could have afforded to bump up our travel methods and our accommodations but we decided not to. We needed to recoup some of the money we spent in some of the more expensive countries we recently visited. Also, I think Bud and I just like to travel in the middle area of tourists. We don’t want to be the dirt-poor vagabond but we also don’t want to be the pampered tourist. I think we fit best in that in-between area.
I hope these numbers spark some interest for people to visit India. Of all the places, we have visited I think this was the one place that was so different and eye opening. India is a relatively stable country with an abundance poverty. In many places, they just make do with what they have and it is a unique experience to see it. An example would be the man Bud spotted working on his 1950’s transistor radio, it wasn’t a hobby and it wasn’t a collector, it was just his daily radio. With what I saw, I can’t imagine what a poorer country would be like. I hope someday I will be brave enough to see for myself. Following is what we spent for our time in India. Beth H.
