Hi.

We are Bud and Beth. We sold most of our belongings (stored the rest) and hit the road for one year around the world. Follow our adventure as we go to 26 countries and 45 cities (give or take a few) in one year.

Hong Kong is expensive to live in but not too expensive to visit. We should have stayed two weeks.

In Hong Kong, our lodging cost were higher than normal. Hong Kong is considered one of the top 5 most expensive places to live in the world. For $85 a night we stayed in a tiny little apartment in the Kowloon neighborhood in Hong Kong. We could walk to many places but we did have to take the metro a fair amount of time. Luckily the metro is fairly easy to navigate and very affordable. We are continually surprised how well our google maps will guide us around in these countries. It will tell us which transit line to take and give us directions to the nearest stop, the name of the line and even the approximate time of arrival.

We did go on two tours in Hong Kong and they were well worth it – a bike tour and a walking tour. We found a fabulous tour guide at http://www.hongkongfreetours.com/. The tours were free and we just had to pay for our bike rental. Michael, the owner had just begun the business and was trying to get his TripAdvisor reviews up so he is offering free tours now. So, on top of being one of the better tours we had been on, it was also free. Bud went to tip the guide at the end and they refused to accept it. So, if you make it into Hong Kong – these guys are worth a visit. We did spend a day Hong Kong Disneyland. If you ever are far from home and you miss your homeland, Disneyland is a great place to spend the day. Once again, we got lucky. I wasn’t even going to check into it because Disneyland is known for being so expensive at home. To my surprise and adult admission was $75 (much less than at home) and a senior price was $13. My point in telling you this is when you are in an expensive tourist area, be sure to really check around because you may be surprised at the affordability and different options. Beth H.

Following is what we spent for our 7 days in Hong Kong China.
