What we spent in Florence Italy for our 7 day adventure.
We left Florence with the feeling we had seen most of what we had wanted to. Living for a year on the road has been a learning experience in many areas. One thing that we have learned is how much we don’t need to be happy. We never buy any trinkets, new clothes or extras. We have been happy with making those small sacrifices to spend more money on seeing the museums, parks and monuments. All of those have entry fees that can add up quickly. Also, we have learned in Europe, the restroom even has a fee. McDonalds, public space or train station are sure to have a fee of $.80 - $1.50 just to enter the facility. I am enjoying my lesson on how other cultures deal with issues that I have taken for granted at home.
In Florence, we stayed in a reasonable budget range for a European city. We ate out at a few local restaurants to experience the local food. We stayed in a local inhabited neighborhood to get more of a feel of Florence. We appear to be on track to making our savings last for our entire trip and getting the experience of a life time. Right this moment, I am sitting in an alley café surrounded by people speaking Italian and wondering if they are poking fun at the two Americans that have invaded their non-tourist restaurant. I’d have to say, the biggest lesson that I have learned is that no matter where we are, people are just people and I am enjoying the opportunity to see the differences and the similarities.
