Hi.

We are Bud and Beth. We sold most of our belongings (stored the rest) and hit the road for one year around the world. Follow our adventure as we go to 26 countries and 45 cities (give or take a few) in one year.

Never in a million years did I think I would go to the Vatican! Here is what we saw!

The Vatican was on our must do list of places to see in Rome. I am not sure how many people know that the Vatican City is its own country. It is the smallest country in the world. We learned that they have their own currency (but also accept the Euro) and it has a population of 700 people with very few women. All residents work directly with the church. They do have embassy’s but some of the embassies are on leased land outside of the Vatican country due to limited space. The Vatican museum has a huge collection on marble sculptures, renaissance art, frescos by Raphael in several rooms and of course the Sistine Chapel with the paintings of Michelangelo. The Sistine Chapel took Michelangelo 4 years to complete and the Last Judgement took him 6 years to complete. It was all so amazing to see. Beth

It took 50 minutes to work our way through the security line to get into St Peters Basilica. Our efforts pay off after we enter the church and immediately confront Michelangelo’s Pieta. The best marble sculpture other than the David. Turn after turn our smart phone, turned into an audio guide, walks us through over 25 points of interest. We see family chapels, tombs of Popes, tombs of martyrs and biblical mosaics that look like they were just painted. It’s a fantastic walk through 90 minutes of history in the most important Catholic Church in the world. This home to the Pope is not to be missed. Bu
