THE RUINS OF JERISH AMMAN JORDAN
The days are being put together quickly as we decide to splurge - again - and take a private car to the famous ancient Jordanian city of Jarash. We gamble that it is worth it as the Jordanian dinar is very strong against the American dollar. $7 Us dollars to $1 Jordanian JD - OUCH! We are not disappointed. Almost 3 hours later we make a huge oval of the walled city experiencing its history as we read the many signs explaining ancient time BC, Roman times, the Islamic rule from 450 AD - 749 AD when a devastating earthquake destroyed the city.
Jerash lay in ruins form 749 AD until briefly being occupied in the 12 century. It was nearly destroyed by robbers until 1910 when a garrison of soldiers began protecting the site.
Jarash displays Roman engineering better than most archaeological sites and was a wonder to tour. Bud
