GRAFFITI IN AMMAN JORDAN AND A COURAGOUS YOUNG LADY
Amman Jordan is no exception for the street art world. While we visited the city, we traveled mostly on foot so our sightings were limited - we can only walk so far. We did find a few good treasures but missed so many more.
While doing my typical wandering on the web looking for hints of where to find the street art, I ran across a 2015 article and video about a 25-year-old women who lives in a refugee camp near the Syrian border. Laila was born in the refugee camp and is a 2nd generation refugee. Her parents were also born in the camp. Laila’s grandparents had moved to the camp in 1948 because of the Arab – Israeli conflict (700,000 people were displaced). Laila is using her university education and talent in art, to help empower young women to empower themselves in a country that undervalues women's rights. The video is short and the article is inspirational. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
