THE HANGING CHURCH - COPTIC CAIRO - CAIRO EGYPT
We were fortunate to spend a few hours at The Hanging Church also known as Coptic Cairo. Coptic Cairo is the old part of Cairo and dates back to 6th century BC. The city has a 80% Muslim population and 20% Christian population. The Church has 110 icons (mostly paintings) which the oldest date back to the 8th century. The history is immense and the building is beautiful.
My person biggest moment was seeing all the school age children giggle and point and stare at Bud and myself. A few gained courage and asked for pictures. We were afraid that their teacher was getting upset with the distraction so we left the room. Still determined they peered through the door and kept giggling. We finally went back in to apologize to the young teacher for the disruption and he asked for a photo as well. We spent several minutes taking photos with the kids. I can only assume the kids were from a rural area and were not use to seeing Americans. They were all so sweet and enjoyed practicing their English with us. One young girl took my hand and walked me around and introduced me to 1/2 dozen of her friends. Beth
