LAST DAY IN LONDON ENGLAND.
Today we spent the day in the British Museum. Out of the worlds top 10 museums, this is the forth top 10 museum that we have been to. There is no question why it has been placed into the top 10. The museum is beautifully laid out with modern presentation of all the history it contains. It was started in 1753 with donations and it has become one of the worlds foremost natural history museums that specialize in all things Egyptian. The Rosetta stone, ancient statues, monuments, mummies, art work - they have it all. The museum is full of glassware, jewelry, furnishings, gold, silver and much more. Special features highlight the emergence of the era of enlightenment of the 1700's. English chemists, botanist and scientific thinkers broke new ground for scientific knowledge they then collected specimens that have found their way to the museum floor.
We were able to see amazing collection from Egypt that is well cared for and beautifully displayed. It really meant alot to us to be able to see some pieces that had come from places that we had just visited in Egypt a few months ago. The amount of information that is displayed next to each exhibit is so helpful. We rented a audio guide for a few dollars and we were able to wander at our own pace and listen to the commentary on the pieces that caught our eye. The best part was while wandering around our friend Rashid called just to say hi. Rashid is a guide in Egypt that we met and he explained and taught us so much about ancient Egypt. We had literally been talking about him just minutes before he called. Life is so mysterious and funny at times. Bud and Beth ps. They don't allow flash photography so it was hard to get some photos. So many shots didn't turn out.
