STREET ART/GRAFFITI IN BARCELONA SPAIN
Each city we go to Bud and I take the time to wander the streets and view some of the street art. We have even been able to take a couple of tours in a few of the cities.
In Barcelona we took a tour from a young American that has been living in Spain for 4 years. Along the route of our tour he pointed out different creative art that I would normally passed by. One example is the American advertising icon that has been transformed, you will remember it also. The Morton salt girl has been transformed into the Morton assault girl. I thought it was pretty clever but I am not sure if with all of the United States recent shootings that it is a good thing. It made me wonder if other countries are becoming more cautious of traveling to the US.
We were also shown an art gallery that features graffiti/street art artist that have transitioned into doing their work for commercial sales. (www.baseelements.net) Some street/graffiti artist have been able to evolve their work into commercial success. A name that comes to mind is Shepard Fairy who began The Obey clothing line that is now sold in retail stores.
