STREET ART/GRAFFITI IN BERLIN GERMANY
In Berlin we were able to do a graffiti/street art tour AND a work shop! Wow was it fun!
The tour itself wasn’t anything more than what we have done in previous cities. We had a good guide who walked us through a less tourist traveled area. We saw some amazing art, which always makes me think that there must be an infinite number of talented people in the world. We learned some new terms like “burner” which means that it is more than a “throw up” and can involve more risk. We also heard of some techniques such as fire extinguisher graffiti. Which is exactly as it sounds, spraying paint with a fire extinguisher.
The work shop class was fun - real fun! We were given brief but adequate instructions on the techniques of stenciling. We were able to choose our own stencils and make our own piece of art. I can say for certain now, it is not as easy as it looks. Our teachers grabbed the spray cans and applied the paint effortlessly and we could not follow in their footsteps. They helped and encouraged us and we each walked away with a decent picture to show for our efforts. The workshop definitely peaked my interest in the making process and I am looking forward to finding some more workshops along our travels. Beth
