MADINA CASABLANCA MOROCCO
We made a trip to the Medina in the old part for Casablanca. It has large old walls surrounding it. Within the walls are many old residences down crazy narrow alleys with no sort of organization. The main part however is a crazy old market. There is clothing, fruit, vegetables, daily needs, meat, fish and just about anything else. It was old chaotic and crazy all rolled up in one.
We saw a women inspect a live chicken and a man butcher it right on the spot. We saw beef hanging from the ceiling or laying on counters un-refrigerated. We saw fresh fish grilled right on the street. The fish looked amazing until you realized it had never been refrigerated or put on ice.
For a person who has never been to this type of a market, it was quite a sight. People hustling around in their daily lives trying to run a business or provide a meal for their family was a pleasure to witness first hand. Beth
