OUR DISAPPOINTING AIRBNB IN CASABLANCA MOROCCO
Unfortunately this was the worst of our Airbnb experiences. We have been so lucky to have stayed at so many great places with great hosts that I think we have become spoiled. The apartment had so much potential. It was located in a central area with many stores, restaurants, coffee shops nearby. It was the largest place we had rented, a front room, sitting area, bedroom, full kitchen, full bathroom (even a big bathtub) and 2 decks. Unfortunately the front room had a stinky dead plant, the kitchen and dishes were greasy, the tub and toilet were a mess and the patios were so cluttered you couldn't stand out on them.
The host of the Airbnb lives in the United States and has a older lady help with the Airbnb. Unfortunately the elderly lady had no clue about the wifi or internet, so when we couldn't connect she couldn't help us at all. The French and English language barrier didn't help either. The owner (host) was at a loss at what to do also. She suggested we talk to the 75 year old toothless concierge who also spoke no English and didn't understand wifi. We ended up spending at least 3-4 hours a day at a coffee shop trying to communicate with family, work on our website and all the other internet things we do.
The lesson learned - pay attention to reviews! Look for ones that have many personal messages about the hosts. The reviews that just give 2-3 sentences about "a cozy place" or "good location" are just being polite and probably not to happy with their stay. I have made a deal with myself that we wont rent a Airbnb with less then 10 reviews. My thought is that after 10 clients they probably will have the kinks worked out with their rental. Beth (and I confirm that it has good wifi)
