Day 121 - JUST ANOTHER DAY EXPLORING THE WORLD ONE STEP AT A TIME.
Day 121 was spent taking a bus to town and seeing the sights…..
Here is what we saw
· Rubber duck store with hundreds of Rubber ducks.
· A tiny car allowed to drive on bike paths.
· A receipt to use the potty in KFC for 50 cents. Restaurants aren’t required to have restrooms for people. UGH!
· Yummy treats that are everywhere and making me pudgy just by looking at them.
· Houses that lean because the foundation pilings they are on are deteriorating. When a foundation is replaced, the outside is to remain leaning – the houses are protected as historical buildings.
· A Town Hall building that was turned into a Palace after Napoleons brother Louis Bonaparte decided to take the building for himself in 1806. Up until then the Netherlands did not have a monarchy.
· The thinnest house – 6ft 7.5 inches wide and 19 ft 8 inches’ deep.
· Anne Frank’s home where her and her family and 4 others hide for 2 years from the Nazi’s. She died in a concentration camp from typhus. Her father was the only surviving family member. Although he had promised to never read her diary, he did in order to remember his daughter. He thought her words should be heard by the world and sought publication for her diary. It has been translated into 60 different languages.
· Rembrandts home where he executed his best works, lived and taught his profession. The interactive demonstrations where he printed from etching plates and making oil based paints the way his studio did, made the trip magical. We enjoyed his large original collections of etchings and finished with a informal video of how his genius played out with his personal technique of layering colors. Truly fascinating.
· Red light district and the beautiful ladies in the windows. (We were respectful and did not take photos).
