AIRBNB IN RIO DE JANEIRO
In Rio we decided to stay in a Airbnb. This was only our second time using Airbnb so we were a little nervous of what we were getting. We chose a location that was only one block from Copacabana Beach. We weren't looking for anything fancy, just a place to rest our heads at night. Our thought was that we would spend most of our days out sightseeing and enjoying the country. We just needed a safe place to sleep.
The apartment was in a locked building that had a doorman who sat at a desk near the door. Every time you came in or out the building - he had to buzz you in. His whole job description was to push that little button and watch the security cameras. This made me feel safe. The building was old but kept clean and in good repair. The elevator was old and a little rickety but it got us up and down just fine. We did have to get use to opening the door ourselves tho. The first few times we just stood there waiting for the door to magically open. The other little quirk was when it stopped on our 7th floor, it would never quite match the floor. Sometimes you would step up to get in the elevator and sometimes you would step down. It was just a few inches but it always seemed a little odd.
We did enjoy our stay but it was a little more bare then we would have probably liked. Bud kept thinking of ways the owner could add a table here or a painting there. All in all for our $44 a night - we felt like we had made a good choice. Beth
