AIRBNB IN ILHA GRANDE (AN ISLAND OFF THE COAST OF RIO)
When we originally set out on our trip, we had not listed Ilha Grande as one of our stops. However a friend had recommended it just days before we left. We were able to let our Rio residence go early and sneak in a quick trip to a lovely island off the coast of Rio. We took a tourist van ride (recommended by Foder's) and a ferry ride across the bay to Ilha Grande. All this was done in a 4 hour stretch. On Airbnb we found a small humble room to stay at for two nights. We had made a great choice. The host was a very nice local man who spoke English and his young son - 6 year old George. He has been renting his place out on Airbnb for about 2 years. He had a rotating endless supply of guests. While we stayed we met a real nice young Canadian couple and a young girl from Brussels. The evening talks were lively and very welcoming as our host and his Brazilian friend cooked us our dinner meal. So for $50 a night we got interaction with lively fun people, good food and a safe place to sleep. Beth
